Shared IP

What Is Shared IP?

A shared IP is an IP address that can be shared by multiple users or websites. In traditional network services, the ISP usually assigns every user a dedicated IP address. As the internet continues to expand and user numbers soar, the availability of IP address resources has become increasingly limited. To optimize and enhance the utilization of IP resources, Shared IP has been created.

Shared IP can reduce the cost of IP address maintenance to a certain extent and minimize the problem of resource shortage by assigning multiple users to the same IP address and connecting them to the Internet.

Advantages of Shared IP

・Cost-Effective

Shared IP hosting is typically less expensive than dedicated IP hosting because the cost of the IP address and server resources are spread across multiple users.

・Easy to Set Up

In a shared hosting environment where a single IP address is utilized by multiple users, there is often the convenience of having access to a variety of software pre-installed on the server - just a simple click to install.

・Shared Reputation

Shared IP addresses make it easy for users to jointly monitor IP health and share the good reputation of other domains with the same IP address.

Disadvantages of Shared IP

・IP-Based Filtering

If the shared IP is blacklisted due to some user's bad actions, other users on the same IP may find their access to certain services or websites blocked as well.

・Shared Damage

If a website receives a hacker attack, other websites sharing the same address can also be exposed because they belong to the same directory.

・Shared Resource

The server resources associated with a shared IP address also need to be shared with all users. When traffic to one site increases dramatically, the speed and performance of the rest of the Internet decreases.
