Talaria is X-VPN's new in-house VPN protocol, designed to deliver faster speeds by reducing processing overhead and making better use of available bandwidth. Beyond speed, it combines advanced encryption, open-source transparency, and independent security assessment to deliver a fast, secure and trustworthy VPN experience.
Explore TalariaTalaria processes multiple connections in parallel and reduces unnecessary data handling, improving transfer efficiency, reducing CPU overhead, and making better use of available bandwidth, as detailed in our Talaria technical white paper.
When several apps use a VPN at once, their traffic can compete for the same processing resources. Talaria's multi-channel, multi-core design gives each connection its own data channel and distributes the work across multiple CPU cores, allowing multiple connections to be processed simultaneously.

Handling network packets individually can create unnecessary overhead. Through hardware offloading and batch processing, Talaria handles multiple packets at once and moves supported tasks to network hardware. Its multi-stage pipeline separates reading, encryption or decryption, and writing data back into stages that can run simultaneously. Buffers help manage temporary slowdowns between stages, while memory reuse reduces repeated allocations, keeping data moving efficiently with less CPU overhead.

Traditional VPN tunneling typically forwards traffic at the IP-packet level, which can involve repeated processing for each packet. Talaria uses a userspace network stack to recognize packets belonging to the same TCP flow and handle their forwarding at the flow level. This can reduce repeated packet-level work, while traffic continues to travel through an encrypted VPN tunnel.

Beyond faster performance, Talaria brings together advanced encryption, open-source transparency, and independent security assessment.
Built on TLS 1.3, Talaria combines X25519 and ML-KEM-768 in a hybrid key exchange to help protect against potential future quantum threats. Certificate verification, authenticated encryption, and anti-replay safeguards provide additional protection against tampering and replay attacks.
Talaria's source code is publicly available on GitHub under the AGPL v3 open-source license. Anyone can review how the protocol works, while the license sets out how the code can be used, modified, and shared.
Vantage Point Security conducted an independent security audit of Talaria and its underlying cryptographic mechanisms. No vulnerabilities were identified within the scope of the assessment, and the reviewed implementation was found to follow industry best practices.
Beyond Talaria, we've upgraded our server infrastructure, improved connection routing, and optimized data processing across devices to further improve speed and efficiency.
We've expanded our 10Gbps and 25Gbps server network to cover over 90% of X-VPN traffic in Europe and North America. Combined with upgrades to powerful dedicated bare-metal servers, this gives our network more capacity to handle simultaneous connections and reduce slowdowns during busy periods.
X-VPN's AI Routing uses real-time speed tests and available server bandwidth to find a more efficient route. Instead of trying every connection option one by one, it tests the most promising ones first and stops as soon as a connection succeeds. This helps reduce connection delays and improve overall routing efficiency.
We've optimized X-VPN for iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows to make better use of each device's resources. Improvements to data batching, memory management, multi-core scheduling, and network drivers reduce unnecessary processing and help improve transfer efficiency and connection stability.
